FACTS: Sterling silver is alloyed with copper and all silver, sterling or pure, can tarnishes, although pure silver does not tarnish as rapidly. Silver used in jewelry today is generally either fine (pure) silver or sterling silver.

Fine silver is between 950/1000 to 999/1000 pure silver and sterling silver is 925/1000 pure silver. Mexican silver can vary from between 900/1000 to 980/1000, but is now mostly 925/1000 silver.
